to Complete Uncle Bush's Page 1. Research and locate Life Magazine piece published after the funeral. This research is ongoing as of 9/16/07. Steve is tracking a lead as we speak that might be fruitful. My lead to 'Life goes to a Mountain Funeral' in the April, 1940 edition, came to nothing. It was about someone else. 2. (Completed 8-3-07) Posted article by Bert Vincent entitled "Strolling" / The Knoxville News-Sentinel, Saturday Feb. 8, 1958 3. (Completed 8-4-07) Posted article, "A Glimpse of the Past", by Snyder Roberts / Roane County NEWS, Wed. August 26, 1981 4. (Completed 8-4-07) Posted article titled simply "Uncle Bush". Starts: Felix Breazeale, son of Drury Wood Breazeale 5. (Completed 8-4-07) Posted article entitled "Bush Breazeale Taking No Chances on Funeral" / Kingston, May 30, three weeks prior to the funeral. Added link to picture of article as it appeared in 1938 on 9-8-07. 6. (Completed 8-5-07) Posted piece by Polly Sherwood entitled "Resident's funeral plans drew crowd". 2001 Bicentennial. 7. (Completed 8-5-07) Posted Ken Trivitte sermon, 'Death, Your Day Is Coming'. The first half of the sermon is Uncle Bush's story. 8. (Completed 8-5-07) Posted article entitled, "1938 Funeral Service Catches Up With 'Uncle Bush' Breazeale, Dead at 78" / Special to the News-Sentinel, Feb. 10, 1943, the day after Uncle Bush died. 9. (Completed 8-7-07) Posted directions to Cave Creek Cemetery, Roane Co., Tenn. Wrote description of location of Uncle Bush's headstone. Posted pictures of headstone and location. 10. (Completed 8-7-07) Posted very short piece entitled "Bush and His Mule". Comments from Uncle Bush the week before the funeral. 11. (Completed 8-8-07) Posted piece by Carol Batey entitled, "Uncle Bush's Premature Funeral Still A Novelty" / The Roane County NEWS, Monday, September 24, 1979 12. (Completed 8-11-07) Posted digital version of the program for the funeral. It took quite a bit of acrobatics with the picture editing process to get them up there looking the way they should. 13. (Completed 8-16-07) Acquired seven pictures (the Huggins set) from Roane Co. Heritage Commission. These pictures have been worked into the presentation and form the greater part of the visual substance of the display. 14. (Completed 8-16-07) Posted article entitled "Uncle Bush, Famed For Funeral, Dies" / Knoxville Journal, Feb. 10, 1943 15. (Completed 8-23-07) Posted full sermon of the funeral service found in the Roane County Banner's June 30, 1938 issue in RCHC. We had just overlooked it last time. 16. (Completed 8-30-07) Posted new page to contain all the information we collected concerning the Brack Smith murder in 1891. Associated text includes information from series of obituaries taken from "Roane Co., Tennessee Obituaries, 1890-1895", by Robert L. Bailey. This tells some of the story about the murder Uncle Bush was accused of as a young man. Also posted in this page, a link to official court documents that reveal evidence of Uncle Bush's involvement in the murder. Information pool is incomplete and will be upgraded over time. 17. (Completed 9-2-07) Posted Uncle Bush's Picture Book. This is a page that includes virtually all photographs on the entire site, the ones that count, anyway. This page is unique in that it has research notes, observations and comments that do not appear on the webpage proper. It is sort of a working file, but it is interesting. 18. (Completed 9-4-07) Posted Knoxville News-Sentinel piece from June 27, 1938 by Bonnie Tom Robinson entitled, "...Farm Happy...Off So Nice". This piece has many quotes from Bush and friends. The RCHC did not have it, but the public library in Knoxville did. Steve and I rode to Knoxville on our last trip to Tennessee and were able to get the rest of the article. 19. (Completed 9-8-07) Posted piece by Betty Magee entitled, "The Man Who Listened...To His Own Funeral" / The Harriman Record, Thursday, October 24, 1957. This article turned out to be riddled with misinformation, misconceptions, and incorrect statements of fact, but I posted it anyway, wrote a rebuttal to it, and posted that behind it. My purpose was to set the Record straight, The Harriman Record, that is. This article was printed again, in it's entirety, on October 17, 1974. The text was verbatim, but there was only one picture. A close-up of Bush in his hat and overalls. 20. (Completed 9-8-07) Posted an article that was published in The Nashville News (I think!) on 2-11-43. Another article published without basic research to confirm information. Many erroneous details. Comments posted following article. 21. (Completed 9-9-07) Posted piece by Pat Hope entitled "'round roane"/Cave Creek: Famous Funeral Site / East Roane County series, 1986. This piece was completed on last trip to Kingston. Several points not supported by research findings. Link to Comments after Bush section of article. 22. (Completed 9-15-07) Posted a piece discussing the Ripley's Believe It or Not! radio episode, broadcast on July 26, 1938. This discussion links together the series of telegrams exchanged by Ripley's in New York and W.A. Baker, Uncle Bush's 'agent' in Kingston. Posted the audio file of the Ripley's radio interview with Uncle Bush. The audio file is a modified, cut down version of the complete program audio. Also posted a written transcript of the modified sound file. Page 1 of 1 |
